Homemade Laundry Detergent for Pennies!
Grate and dissolve 1 bar soap (any kind, your choice). Dissolve it in 1 quart boiling water and set aside.
In a 5 gallon bucket, dissolve 1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (this is not baking soda but a different product found in the laundry isle) and 1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax (also found in the laundry isle) in 1 gallon warm water. Stir until powders are completely dissolved. Add dissolved soap & water solution. Fill the bucket with warm water and stir. Once the solution has cooled, you will have a goopy laundry detergent. Use 1 cup for top load washers, 1/3 cup for front load washers.
If you wear a lot of delicate fabrics, you can eliminate the 20 Mule Team Borax from the recipe.
The laundry soap can also be used in the dishwasher.
