Whereas, all people in the global community have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment with economic growth, and

Whereas, human activities around the world are causing severe environmental damage that threatens human health and our planet’s ability to sustain a diverse community of life, and

Whereas, the citizens of the global community must step forward and take action to create a green economy that lives in harmony with the environment, and

Whereas, local communities can do much to reverse environmental degradation and contribute to building a healthy society by addressing issues such as energy use, transportation, waste prevention, and litter control, and

Whereas, there are sound economic, environmental, and social reasons for local governments to initiate energy efficiency and renewable energy practices, and

Whereas, the Texoma Earth Day Festival will be held on April 21, 2012 on the Municipal Building Grounds and will feature programs and activities where ordinary people will learn practical things to improve the health of the planet and to enhance the community’s natural environment.

Now Therefore I Bill Magers, Mayor of the City of Sherman, Texas,by the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim April 21, 2012

TEXOMA EARTH DAY FESTIVAL DAY

In the City of Sherman and encourage all citizens, businesses, and institutions to use this day to celebrate the Earth and commit to building a sustainable society.
